About the Role: We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Native American Language Project Coordinator to lead a groundbreaking project that ensures the accessibility of official government documents, signage, and website content to Tribal Nations. The successful candidate will coordinate translation efforts between government agencies and a team of translators, ensuring the delivery of high-quality written and audio translations in multiple indigenous languages.
Key Responsibilities:
-Coordinate translation services for federal agencies, ensuring all content is accurately translated into designated indigenous languages including Yu'pik (Central dialect), Cherokee (Western dialect), Ojibwe (Western dialect), Lakota, and Navajo.
-Manage relationships between government agencies and translators, serving as the primary point of contact.
-Oversee the translation process for both written documents and audio recordings.
-Ensure that translated written materials are delivered in Microsoft Word format and audio files are provided in Broadcast Wave Format (BWF).
-Maintain timelines and project schedules to ensure on-time delivery of translation services.
-Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure translation quality and project objectives are met.
Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Linguistics, Native American Studies, or a related field preferred.
-Experience in project coordination or management, particularly in translation or linguistics projects.
-Strong knowledge of Native American languages and cultures, with emphasis on the languages specified.
-Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise between diverse groups.
-Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
-Experience with audio editing or familiarity with Broadcast Wave Format (BWF) is a plus.
-Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Purpose: This role is vital to the Assistant Secretary – Indian Affairs' mission to ensure that official information is accessible to Tribal Nations in their native languages. By facilitating this project, the Coordinator will play a key role in bridging communication and cultural gaps between the government and indigenous communities.
