Senior Site Reliability Engineer with Python
We're on a mission to help every company hit their numbers.
The world has evolved, but business planning has not. Most Finance teams still manage their planning and analysis in spreadsheets, yet the ones who replace them end up going back over 80% of the time. Cube is the first spreadsheet-native FP&A platform to deliver faster planning and performance without changing how teams work. Cube’s powerful engine connects into existing spreadsheets and source systems, delivering all of the benefits of enterprise-level FP&A with none of the headaches.
To date, Cube has raised over $45M of venture capital from top tier investors such as Battery Ventures and Mayfield. Together, we’re building a culture that challenges and celebrates everyone with a path to grow. That’s where you come in! We’re happily headquartered in New York City, but are foremost a remote-first company. This means we communicate, collaborate, and connect virtually across different time zones. As we enter our next phase of growth, we believe Cubers are the reason we win.
About the Role:
Cube is hiring a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to join our Engineering Team across the US and Canada. Our goal as a company is to create an extremely simple and straightforward product in an industry (Financial Planning and Analysis, FP&A) that deals with complex data and modeling.
As a team, we’re looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to take ownership of the systems and tools used by our engineering teams and foster a culture of continuous improvement, communication, and collaboration.
As a valued member of our team, you’ll partner closely with all of our Engineering teams. You’ll report to the Head of Engineering. This is an excellent opportunity to come into a focused team and build out processes and structures that will elevate the entire Engineering department.
Tech Stack
Our front end is written in JavaScript/TypeScript and built using React/GraphQL.
Our back end is written in Python and built using Django.
Our infrastructure is hosted within AWS and follows the well-architected framework.
Our processes are driven by automation, experimentation, observability, and security.
How you'll ramp:
By Day 30:
Technical Onboarding: Become familiar with the Cubes' technical stack, codebase, architecture, and our team's culture and values.
Processes and Protocols: Learn about our engineering best practices, workflows, and internal processes like code reviews, deployments, and incident response.
Team Integration: Attend team meetings and one-on-ones to get to know colleagues, understand team dynamics, and work with your team to identify areas where you can start to make an impact.
By Day 60:
Take on Small Projects: Begin by gradually working on smaller, less critical tasks to build confidence and familiarity with the system.
Monitoring and Alerting: Start taking part in on-call responsibilities by shadowing other engineers to better understand our monitoring systems and incident response processes.
Documentation and Feedback: Leave things better than you found them by documenting what you've learned, contributing to existing documentation, and offering feedback on our processes and tooling.
By Day 90:
Ownership of the Platform: Take ownership of projects and features within the platform and start to drive them from ideation to completion.
Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with other engineering teams, product management, and even customer success to better understand the system, its stakeholders, and improvement opportunities.
Technical Strategy: Provide valuable feedback and impactful ideas that align with the organization's technical strategy, and start shaping the departments together with your team.
What you will be doing:
As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, your role extends beyond code creation; you're pivotal in fostering a robust, innovative, and collaborative environment that pushes the boundaries of what our technology can achieve. Here’s a deeper look into your responsibilities:
Code:
Developing sophisticated, scalable, and robust developer tooling, infrastructure, and CI/CD pipelines for the engineering teams with a clear focus on readability, maintainability, and modularity.
Collaborate:
Engaging in pair programming sessions that promote skills development and shared best practices while focusing on developing solutions and troubleshooting issues together as a team.
Mentor:
Organizing and leading internal knowledge-sharing sessions to disseminate knowledge, introduce new methodologies, and discuss industry trends.
Influence:
Participate in the assessment and exploration of new tools, technologies, and processes that will drive impactful changes and performance enhancements for our teams.
Ownership:
Leading by example by driving positive changes in quality, observability, performance, security, and scalability in every aspect of our engineering processes.
As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, you’re not just a part of the team—you’re a driving force in it. Your expertise, leadership, and forward-thinking approach will be fundamental in shaping the future of our technology, our product, and our company culture.
What you've accomplished... so far:
Technical Prowess:
You’ve developed a deep expertise in handling databases, particularly those based on SQL. Your understanding of Python, AWS cloud architecture, databases, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and performance optimization is both practical and comprehensive.
Quality and Efficiency:
You have learned to employ a meticulous approach to your work, from code writing and database management to team collaboration and project deadlines, ensuring a standard of excellence in everything you do.
Creativity and Resourcefulness:
You have refined your creative problem-solving skills to excel in challenging situations. Whether it's a tight deadline or a complex technical challenge, you're known for thinking outside the box, getting unstuck, and coming up with innovative solutions to move initiatives forward.
Collaborative Spirit:
You have embraced remote teamwork and collaboration fully. They are principles you embed in your daily work. You believe in sharing knowledge, co-creating solutions, and lifting others as you climb in a distributed work environment.
Geographic inclusivity is vital to us. This position is open to passionate professionals living in the United States or Canada, aligned with our commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive team culture.
