Project Manager (Director)

DCG Communications is seeking a skilled and experienced Project Manager (Director) to provide daily management and leadership of a multi-year, nationwide, full-service communications campaign. This includes client management, interaction, and relationship building, as well as team and contract deliverable management. In this role, you will join our growing team whose mission is to combat suicide and provide holistic support to service members, veterans, their families, and their communities.

The Role:

On this fast-paced, high-profile account, you will support the overall performance of a multi-faceted account, serving as the primary client contact on status and performance, anticipating and fulfilling client needs to ensure their satisfaction and continued growth of the business. You will collaborate with DCG and sub-contractor team members to execute deliverables across a multitude of key areas including, but not limited to strategic communications, events, paid media, social media, web development, graphic design, and video. The ideal candidate will be expected to support proposal activities for follow-on work.

Location: 

At DCG the majority of our team members, including this role are remote. With over 100 employees based in 23 states (and counting!), DCG is committed to hiring talented employees across the United States. The selected candidate will work during DCG’s core Eastern Standard Time business hours.

Additional responsibilities include (but are not limited to): 

  • Support the organization and direction of task order activities, including staffing, and financial and proposal management.

  • Manage, lead, and motivate a diverse team of professionals.

  • Monitor project performance with the help of appropriate systems, tools, and techniques.

  • Support the preparation and ongoing management of detailed project management plans and use the appropriate systems, tools, and techniques to monitor performance and track progress.

  • Timely and concisely communicate project expectations with team members.

  • Adhere to established budget and recommend changes where necessary.

  • Delegate tasks to appropriate personnel.

  • Identify and resolve issues or conflicts within the project team.

  • Use Team DCG’s web-based project management system, Monday.com, and other tools to track project timelines.

  • Determine frequency and execute delivery of regularly scheduled progress reports and ad hoc status reports.

  • Analyze report results and troubleshoot.

  • Proactively identify risks, and devise mitigation plans.

  • Motivate and coach project team to take positive actions and be accountable.

  • Support the preparation and ongoing management of detailed project management plans to track progress.

  • Monitor project performance with the help of appropriate systems, tools, and techniques.

  • Prepare reports and present them to senior management as needed.

  • Draft recommendations based on observation, leadership development best practices, and research.

  • Support the preparation and review of comprehensive project documentation, including quality assurance plans, checklists, approval sheets for deliverables, comment trackers, etc.

  • Monitor suicide prevention-related efforts, conducting benchmarking and best practices research within the Department and externally with Federal agencies, non-government and non-profit organizations, and academia, providing updated findings.

  • Lead the team in developing communication materials, including messaging and graphics for presentations, infographics, and reports.

  • Gather and consolidate input from clients, partners, subject matter experts and team to develop draft suicide prevention-related strategic plans, plans of action and milestones, and other planning and implementation processes.

 Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year college or university

  • At least eight (8) years of project management experience with progressive responsibility managing (or being directly responsible for) large, multi-million dollar federal communications programs

  • Strong organizational skills and strong attention to detail

  • Experience successfully managing multiple tasks and deliverables simultaneously

  • Experience in defining and refining processes.

  • Experience working or liaising with executive leadership and/or senior agency staff

  • Proven experience leading a project involving a diverse team composed of writers, communications professionals, and event planners/coordinators

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise mature judgment; ability to assess and mitigate project risks

  • Experience promoting programs, plans, goals, and objectives with stakeholders and maintaining continuous communication with the client relating to contract performance

  • Demonstrated ability to oversee, manage and connect multiple projects and timelines across diverse work streams in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team-building skills

  • Demonstrated ability to manage direct reports and sub-contractors

  • Proven to have outstanding written and oral communication skills including strong experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Demonstrated ability to provide quick turnaround customer requests and perform in high intensity, quick reaction environments

  • Demonstrated experience working with SharePoint, Podio, and/or other contemporary PM software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing large scale communications projects (building client websites, launching public health campaigns)

  • Experience supporting the Department of Defense, Department of Veteran Affairs or working in the military and/or veteran ecosystem

  • Certified Program Management Professional (PMP)

  • Experience in the suicide prevention space
