Human Resources Generalist

Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week)

Classification: Exempt

Location: Remote, working from home

Our experienced veterinarians help pets and their families with quality of life assessments, pain and anxiety management, end of life consultations, and peaceful euthanasia in the comfort of their pet’s favorite place – home.

Position Description

Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice, headquartered in Lutz, FL., seeks to add a key member to its growing team by employing a dynamic Human Resources Generalist.

As a Human Resources Generalist, you will perform administrative tasks and services to support effective and efficient operations of the organization's human resource department that works to provide an employee-oriented, high-quality culture. As a Human Resources Generalist, you will play a staple role in supporting this culture by assisting team members.

Requirements

Essential Functions:

  • Handles benefits onboarding training for all onboarding team members, answering employee questions and referring to brokers as needed.

  • Benefits administration for various benefit platforms and handling applicable file feeds.

  • Performs quality checks of benefits-related data.

  • Assists employees regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes.

  • Distributes all benefits enrollment materials and determines eligibility.

  • Assists in processing and administering leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA.

  • Serves as a point of contact for employee HR-related questions and answers frequently asked questions from applicants and employees relative to standard policies, benefits, hiring processes, etc.; refer more complex questions to HR Director.

  • Helps triage the HR email inbox and assist as needed.

  • Assists in keeping HR spreadsheets and processes up to date regarding any changes.

  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentation while maintaining integrity and confidentiality of the content contained therein.

  • Works to build knowledge and understanding of existing and proposed federal and state laws/regulations affecting Lap of Love.

  • Conducts or acquires background checks and motor vehicle records requests as needed.

  • Performs routine tasks including but not limited to benefits, leaves of absence, onboarding, verifications of employment, worker’s compensation claims, unemployment claims, employee changes spreadsheet such as title and compensation, etc.

  • Assist in providing communication emails to all employees regarding benefits and monthly newsletters.

  • Supports other projects and functions as needed within the Human Resources department.

  • Excellent project management and multitasking. You are exceptionally skilled at juggling multiple tasks, allocating and optimizing resources, and managing timelines.

  • Confident and pleasant. You know what you need from others, are comfortable asking for help, clear about what others can expect from you, and are able to keep things running on time. You understand that everyone is a “customer” and should have a best-in-class service experience when contacting you, the leadership team, or anyone across the organization.

  • Self-starter with excellent follow-up skills. You know what needs to be done and you take the initiative to do so without hesitation. You are flexible, motivated, and reliable, and can work independently to meet company goals.

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field and/or equivalent experience in Human Resources, preferred

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Human Resources Generalist role, required

  • SHRM-CP or equivalent certification, preferred

  • Experience with benefits/insurance, required

  • Experience with multi-state employment, preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills

  • Analytical thinker, willing to ask questions to seek the best solution

  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Willingness to work with others and respect their views

  • Excellent follow-up skills

Physical & Other Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

  • Possesses manual dexterity, fine motor skills, and the ability to operate a computer, read a computer screen and type on a keyboard for prolonged periods of time of up to 8 hours per day.
