Commercial Counsel

Transform the communications world!

We’re proud (and excited!) to be transforming the global communications landscape through our Omnichannel Platform-as-a-Service (OPaaS).

  • What’s my job title? Commercial Counsel

  • Where in the world? You can work remotely from anywhere in the Netherlands

  • What type of contract? Initially a fixed-term contract

  • Working hours? For this role, your core working hours will be based on Central European Time (CET). You will need to communicate with international stakeholders and customers outside of the EMEA region, most notably in the NORAM and Eastern Time (ET) zones.

  • What language(s) will I speak? Fluency in English

We are looking for an experienced lawyer based in Amsterdam, with US experience, fluent in English, with expertise in the SaaS/technology industry, to  join our commercial legal team as Commercial Counsel. This is an exciting opportunity to join our global legal team and have a direct role in driving growth to help us build a world where communicating with a business is as easy and natural as talking to a friend.

This role will require you to negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts (customer and partners) of varying complexity and may involve extensive collaboration with members of sales, finance, marketing, operations, product and security teams. You will be responsible for reporting to and managing key commercial stakeholder relationships in our global business.

The position will be based in Amsterdam and report to the Head of Commercial, Legal (located in EMEA). Our headquarters is in Amsterdam, the work can typically be done remote within the Netherlands. This role will suit an experienced  commercial and technology lawyer who is happy to work in a fast-paced technology business in collaboration with US and EMEA teams.

What you’ll do:

  • Negotiate a wide range of US/EU commercial transactions, from sales agreements to partnership deals and everything in between.

  • Advise internal stakeholders regarding key issues and risks in our commercial contracts and ensure that our agreements reflect our high internal standards and guidelines.

  • Actively shape and support the development of our legal commercial strategy to support our global product offerings and sales strategy.

  • Engage with internal business clients to develop and enhance a streamlined, efficient, and scalable contracting process.

  • Proactively provide training and ongoing support to internal teams on sales and contractual matters, including developing internal playbooks and training.

  • Tackle anything else in the commercial and technology field that gets thrown your way as needed to support a fast-growing, dynamic, and innovative global company.

  • You will be required to have flexibility and overlap in your working hours to accommodate meetings across EMEA and US time zones.

What you’ll bring:

  • Law degree and professional qualification with ability to practise in English in the Netherlands, EU or US. As we operate on a global scale we do not require a Dutch law specific background per se.

  • 4-5+ years commercial/technology experience in an in-house technology environment or combined with practice in a top tier law firm, with particular focus negotiating customer and partnership agreements. Prior background negotiating B2B customer contracts for an international technology/SaaS company preferred.

  • Excellent negotiation, drafting, and communication skills with the ability to manage and foster key stakeholder relationships and collaborate with teams across the business.

  • An understanding and appreciation of privacy, data protection, information security and related issues - with demonstrated ability to negotiate agreements on these issues.

  • Razor sharp organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and quarterly sales deadlines.

  • A start-up mentality - a willingness to roll up your sleeves, clear blockers, think creatively, prioritize effectively, support the business and get the job done.

  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills in English (additional languages are a plus).

  • Working knowledge of Salesforce is a plus.
