Senior Content Strategist/Writer (Contract)

Job Description

We are seeking ​​a seasoned, predominantly B2B Content Strategist/Writer (and some B2C experience doesn’t hurt) to drive content strategy and turn big ideas into concise, compelling content for integrated marketing campaigns, including websites, digital ads, emails, e-books, videos, and more.

The ideal individual is also a brand ambassador—able to quickly immerse themselves in and understand a client's brand, tone/voice, and what differentiates them from their competitors and express this through storytelling.

While experience writing on a food and beverage B2B marketing account is a plus, a mastery of complex client product offerings, how they link to one another, and how to express that in short, easy-to-understand benefit-driven marketing content is more important.

This is a contract position for 20 hours per week for 6 months.

Responsibilities

For the content strategy part:

  • Market research: Actively reviewing/analyzing client-supplied data/analytics and proactively seeking out secondary information/data to inform and support the development of successful strategies

  • Strategy development: Brainstorming and implementing innovative ideas for engaging content that aligns with key marketing and communication objectives and brand messages and moves customers through the buyer journey

  • Content audits: Evaluating existing platforms and content for consistency gaps

  • Content ideation: Based on content audit results, developing fresh and innovative content ideas, tactics, and strategic approaches to solving customer pain points by role and buyer journey stage

  • Content creation: Writing, developing, and updating SEO-friendly content for multiple channels, such as websites, social media, email, etc.

  • Content optimization: Editing existing materials, repurposing them as required, performing keyword research using various tools, optimizing with relevant keywords, and increasing engagement through SEO optimization measures.

For the writing part:

  • Subject matter expertise: Being so entrenched in a client’s business and products that the client thinks you’re one of their SMEs; connecting the dots and applying this learning/knowledge when developing content strategy and content

  • Strategy and messaging: Collaborating with client partners to better understand customers’ needs, help define/architect essential messaging strategy/roadmaps, and ensure the brief is clear and strategically spot-on

  • Concepting/ideating and executing: Working with the Creative Director, concept and execute lead-gen campaign tactics from email and landing pages to digital ads, e-books, infographics, and videos, driving customers and prospects down the funnel; developing headlines that make others say, “Damn, I wished I’d thought of that"; turning complex technical information into engaging, conversational copy that connects deeply with target audiences; possessing phenomenal writing and production skills; applying your technical expertise in writing for today's distracted world and producing keyword-optimized content that’s designed to appeal to human users and search engine algorithms; analyzing client search needs and writing SEM copy that maximizes search performance based on the job to be done

  • Presenting ideas/work: Presenting your ideas with conviction, confidence, and rationale to client marketing leads, from concept through final layout; demonstrating strong, persuasive, and motivating written and oral presentation skills; tell us compelling stories showing how your ideas connect to the strategy

  • Organization/operation: Rolling with the editing process and unexpected changes while meeting tight deadlines; Reviewing your work thoroughly and proofing it/checking it for errors before presenting it internally and externally

Preferred qualifications

  • Food & Bev Writing Experience: Proven experience as a content writer, preferably within the food & bev or related industry.

  • B2B Familiarity: Demonstrated experience targeting a primarily B2B audience.
