Account Manager + Designer for Shopify Dev & CRO Agency
Overview
Envision provides web design, development, and CRO services for clients with ecommerce businesses on Shopify.
We are looking for an account manager with strong project management skills, experience nurturing multiple strong client relationships at once, expertise in web design, and a solid understanding of CRO to oversee client accounts on our monthly service model.
This role involves managing relationships with business owners, supporting them in optimizing their websites for increased sales through web design, development, and CRO strategies. As the primary point of contact for assigned clients, you’ll handle communication, project management, and task delegation to make ongoing improvements and respond to their maintenance and support needs.
You’ll also conduct scheduled audits of their websites, create design mockups, and recommend improvements with their specific business goals in mind. This position involves a blend of account management, project management, and web design, helping our clients maintain their websites and generate more revenue through strategic improvements.
About Envision
We’re a small agency of 6 people, including me (Leighton, the owner & design lead), two account managers, and three developers. As a small team, it’s important that we wear multiple hats, so our account managers specialize in a skill that can serve all of our clients. For example, one account manager is also our SEO and analytics specialist. For this role, we’re looking for an account manager who specializes in design and CRO.
Our cornerstone offer is a Monthly Growth & Support plan, which provides ongoing development, CRO, general support, and strategic advisory services to help our clients grow their businesses on Shopify.
We are fully remote, and we invite candidates to apply from anywhere in the world as long as they are in a workable time zone. Our current team members are distributed across the USA, South America, and Africa. We typically work from around 9am-5pm EST, though hours are flexible.
About You
You may be a great fit for this role if this describes you accurately:
You’ve worked for at least 3 years as a web designer, including work designing ecommerce websites.
You’ve worked for at least 2 years as a project manager, where your responsibilities included communicating directly with clients, managing a team and delegating tasks to developers, and making sure client projects got completed on time.
You thrive on systems and checklists. You like to follow an established process that guides creativity to deliver consistent results.
You feel confident doing a critique of a client’s existing website, finding UI/UX issues and making recommendations for improvements.
You’re extremely detail-oriented. You’re the kind of person who double-checks your email/Slack drafts before sending to correct typos, and you look over your own design work to critique it and make corrections before sharing with a client.
You’re extremely punctual. You show up to meetings right on time, and when you tell a client you’ll get something delivered to them by a certain date, you do so.
You tend to over-communicate rather than under-communicate. You’re great at explaining your thinking behind doing something to a client or fellow team member, you ask lots of questions to help your understanding of a need or situation, and you provide timely updates on the status of a project. If a delay is inevitable, you let the client know early and keep them updated on what’s going on and when they can expect a task to be completed.
About the Role
Key Responsibilities
You’ll serve as the main point of contact for select clients, handling communication, research, and task delegation to accomplish client requests with our team.
You’ll implement changes requested by clients in the back end of Shopify, including things like configuring theme settings, adjusting shipping settings, installing and configuring apps, modifying navigation menus, setting up discounts and promotional banners, etc.
You’ll conduct audits of client websites following our established audit checklist. You’ll provide written reports and video walkthroughs of your findings to clients, then assign tasks to our team to implement the recommended improvements.
You’ll create design mockups in Figma showing suggested UI/UX improvements based on our findings.
Required Qualifications
You have proven experience as a project manager in a team setting, preferably in a creative agency or as a freelancer who outsourced some tasks and managed contractors.
You have prior experience as a web designer with a portfolio of excellent work, including conversion-focused ecommerce websites.
You can competently critique and evaluate websites and give clients constructive feedback in the areas of UI/UX design, conversion optimization, AOV, and LTV. (We have an audit checklist that lists our standard recommendations, but having an eye for design and the ability to make good judgment calls in this area is important.)
You’re comfortable looking at analytics and discussing KPIs.
You have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and are comfortable on video (participating in Zoom meetings and recording Loom videos).
You have strong problem-solving abilities and take initiative. When pointing out a problem or challenge to a team member or client, you also suggest an appropriate solution.
You have the ability to manage multiple tasks that are all going on simultaneously without letting things slip through the cracks.
You can generally be online and working during our normal business hours (9am-5pm EST, Monday-Friday, plus or minus 1 hour or so).
You are detail-oriented enough that you’ll include the phrase “pursuit of excellence” somewhere in your application form or in your accompanying video. (I know, it’s cheesy, but attention to detail is important for this role and I’ve found this type of request to be helpful.)
Bonus Skills (not required, but a plus if you have them)
Experience working on the Shopify platform
Experience running A/B tests on ecommerce websites
Familiar with on-site SEO best practices
Onboarding & Training
The first 2 months will be considered an onboarding and training period, during which you’ll shadow an existing account manager and be assigned to work on the types of tasks our account managers regularly handle, though you won’t yet be managing your own clients. You’ll review our internal SOPs and templates, and you’ll attend team and client meetings to observe and learn about the kinds of issues projects we typically deal with. Our team will record lots of Loom videos to share with you about what we’re working on, and you’ll meet regularly with me (Leighton) to discuss what we’re working on and any questions you have. Our account managers will assign you to work on some of their clients’ tasks on the back end, though they’ll still be communicating with the clients. We’ll slowly ease you into dealing directly with clients and managing your own accounts when you’re ready. Our goal is to provide a supportive and rewarding environment for you to work in and to give you every chance of success in this role. Ideally you’ll be ready to manage at least 2-3 client accounts within 2 months, and at least 5-7 client accounts within 3-4 months.
Day to Day
This role includes daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly tasks that you’ll be responsible for completing. Your responsibilities will include monitoring Slack and email, responding to client requests within 1 business day, completing tasks yourself or assigning them to a developer (depending on the task), attending team operations meetings, and conducting audits of new clients’ websites following our audit checklist.
You’ll also conduct quarterly reassessments of each of your clients’ audits to identify how things are going and see what else needs to be worked on.
For projects and tasks that clients need our help with, you’ll create tasks in our project management system and assign them to the relevant team member, whether that’s you, a developer, an SEO specialist, or someone else. You’ll review and test any work done, requesting revisions if necessary before delivering work to the client.
You’ll participate in weekly operations meetings with our team, monthly one-on-ones with me, and meetings with clients such as onboarding meetings or other client meetings as needed.
Our team mostly communicates over Slack for general discussion, questions, things we need help with, etc. Any task- or project-based work gets entered into our project management system (Teamwork) and assigned to the appropriate person with a due date. We rely heavily on Loom to record videos talking through issues, questions, or updates, both for internal team communication and for client-facing communication. Asynchronous communication is preferred when possible, though sometimes hopping on a quick Zoom call is helpful. We use AI tools for brainstorming, summarization, revision, and automation, but we never just copy and paste AI-generated work and present it as our own work.
Job Perks
Flexible hours. While we aim to be generally online and available to respond to messages and schedule meetings during our normal business hours (approximately 9am-5pm EST, plus or minus 1 hour or so), we trust our team members and treat them like adults. If you need to take off for a doctor’s appointment, run an errand, or go to the gym in the middle of the day, feel free as long as your work is getting done on time.
Remote location. You can be anywhere in the world, as long as you are able to work hours that mostly align with our business hours.
Continuing education stipend. We encourage our team members to take courses and attend conferences to continue learning and developing their skills. We’ll cover a certain amount of these costs each year.
Holidays and paid time off.
Compensation
Starting between $3k-6k per month, depending on skills, experience, and the number of clients you are managing. Compensation will start at a base hourly rate with a monthly minimum number of hours, and will scale up based on the number of client accounts you are managing.
You’ll be paid a 10% revenue share on client accounts that you manage.
A monthly health stipend is included (to go towards health insurance, a gym membership, or whatever you’d like to use it for).
A yearly home office improvement stipend is included.
A continuing education stipend is included.
Our Values
Excellence: We believe in delivering communication and results that are highly detailed, professional, double-checked for accuracy, and well-designed. We show up to meetings on time and deliver projects when promised.
Expertise: We are trusted strategic advisors for our clients – not merely pixel pushers. We are proactive in making recommendations to our clients to help them grow their businesses. When a client has a request, we want to understand the “why” behind their request, and we provide feedback to help refine the approach and make sure it’s as effective as possible.
Efficiency: We don’t spend much time in meetings, preferring async communication as much as possible. Slack and Loom are the core of our daily communication, and we hold weekly team operations meetings.
Empathy: We believe in treating our fellow team members and clients with respect and kindness, making an effort to see things from their point of view. We don’t assume that someone else has the same background knowledge we do, and are happy to go the extra mile to explain something new or help them in any way we can.
Compatibility: We don’t accept every client who wants to work with us. Some clients aren’t a good fit, and we intentionally select our clients with the goal of everyone having a good experience working together.
Hiring Process
We are looking to hire as soon as possible.
Please fill out the linked job application form. We’ll reach out to qualified candidates to schedule an interview over Zoom. A followup interview may be scheduled. The top 3-5 candidates may be hired for a trial project as part of the evaluation process.
If you think you might be a good fit for us (and us for you), let’s talk!
Don't let this one get away.
