Development Director Role

About Tarjimly

Tarjimly is a 501c3 tech nonprofit established in 2017 with a mission to eliminate language barriers for refugees, immigrants, and humanitarians. We accomplish this through our Tarjimly mobile platform, connecting individuals with a vast network of 60,000+ community translators for on-demand language support, in addition to providing a series of professional interpretation and translation services. Our team is global, passionate, and operates entirely remotely, dedicated to making a significant impact in the lives of those we serve.

About The Role

Tarjimly has successfully raised $3 million over the past two years and is now poised to increase its philanthropic revenue to $4.5 million in the next three years to amplify its impact and reach its strategic goals. The Development Director will play a pivotal role in this effort, working closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and Development Team. As a key member of the senior management team, the Development Director will spearhead the development strategy and execution, ensuring that Tarjimly continues to innovate and expand its services to meet the needs of refugees, asylum seekers, and immigrants.


Employment Details

  • Initial contractor/consultant position with extension and conversion to full-time based on performance and availability (flexible).

  • Flexible hours with responsiveness to messages and emails during EST working hours, in addition to availability to conduct online meetings during EST working hours.

  • Team Meetings: Weekly on Tuesdays & Thursdays at 11am EST.

  • Salary range: Dependent on level of experience and interview performance.

  • Benefits include 21 days PTO/year.

  • Fully Remote Position with some travel likely included.

Responsibilities

  1. Fundraising Targets and Portfolio Management: Accountable for achieving or exceeding Tarjimly’s annual fundraising targets ($1.5M/year), with a focus on family foundations, CSR initiatives, and individual donors. Manage and expand a portfolio of key relationships to secure substantial funding contributions.

  2. Fundraising Execution: Lead the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of relationships with donors including individuals, corporations, and foundations. Focus on securing major gifts and multi-year commitments.some text

    1. Monthly Solicitations: Secure meetings with at least 3 new organizational prospects each month.

    2. Grant Acquisition: Successfully acquire at least 3 substantial government or humanitarian grants per year.

    3. Strategic Donor Events: Plan and execute at least 3 major donor cultivation events each year, aiming to increase donor engagement and secure increased commitments.

  3. Collaboration and Networking: Work in close partnership with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to leverage their networks and influence for fundraising purposes. Also, collaborate with other departments to ensure a cohesive approach to stakeholder engagement.

  4. Donor Pipeline Development: Develop a comprehensive donor acquisition and cultivation pipeline, updating the team monthly on the movement and progress of donor prospects to ensure transparency and coordinated efforts within the development team.

  5. Donor Relations: Ensure a robust donor management system is in place enhancing donor engagement and satisfaction. Develop and execute recognition and engagement strategies that deepen donor commitment.

  6. Reporting and Accountability: Monitor and report on fundraising progress to the senior management and board, providing insights and adjustments to strategies as needed.

  7. Government and Humanitarian Contracts: Help the outbound team in efforts to secure government grants and large humanitarian contracts, enhancing Tarjimly’s funding diversity and supporting large-scale projects.

  8. Travel and Networking: Regularly travel to various conferences, events, and family offices to build and strengthen relationships with philanthropic organizations, enhancing Tarjimly’s visibility and fundraising opportunities.‍

Required Experience and Skills

  • Proven Fundraising Ability: 4+ years of experience in nonprofit development, with a strong track record of securing six figure donations from foundations, individuals and CSRs.

  • Strong Networker: Established relationships with key donors and stakeholders in the nonprofit and philanthropic communities.

  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional ability in building relationships, presenting, and persuading various audiences; adept at crafting compelling fundraising messages.

  • Organizational Skills: Strong project management abilities, capable of prioritizing and handling multiple projects simultaneously under tight time constraints.

  • Strategic Thinker: Ability to create and execute long-term fundraising strategies that integrate seamlessly with organizational goals.
